Object: A Rare Songye Miniature Figure

Notes: Songye figures with heads turned to the side are rare;
infact I have never seen one of this style so small. Important to
note is that they represent malevolent spirits as opposed to
benevolent protective spirits like in most Songye figures. This
example carved from hardwood has a charge in the head cavity
in addition to an old brass tack charge in the stomach. Some
old pigments remain as well. Custom mounted on an old
European wood stand.
