Object: A Rare Lega Bona Figure
Size: 5"
Age: Late 19th/Early 20th Century

Provenance: Gallery Tribal Arts, NYC 1972

Old label on back showing inventory numbers (L67-10-47)

Notes:  This is a rare and fine example of a Lega bone
figure. These were owned by members of the Bwami
society.  The stylized abstract body is quite unusual and the
ridges on the head are unique as well.  The high points
show fine wear from handling; this righteous patina results
from decades of use coming in contact with natural hand
oils, and smoke/soot exposure in the hut.  Important to note
is that old Lega material is very rare; there are so many
fakes on the market.  This is an honest and guaranteed
authentic early Lega object.
