Object: A Superb Angbai Loma Ma Mask
Size: 5.5" Tall ~
Age: 19th Century

Provenance: Paolo Morigi 1970s
William Brill Collection, NYC (INV on back 997 )
Published Tribal Art Magazine 2007

(Also Illustrated in Brill's living room photo found in the
Sotheby's 2006 Brill Catalog ) * it can be seen on one of
the shelves - image below.

Notes: This is the best miniature Loma mask I have
handled.  The patina is extremely deep, dry and encrusted
deep from many sacrifices. Carved from hardwood in
classic loma form with its original iron insertions projecting
from the top of the head.   The back of this mask shows
an unaltered dry oxidized surface which is ideal because
so many are doctored and waxed to look old when they
are not.
*I sold this mask a few years ago; and just recently I had
the opportunity to buy it back; and now I can re-offer this
superb maskette.
