Notes: This is a superb 19th century Mano ma mask from Liberia. This example has an encrusted sacrificial patina with areas of rat damage on the nose, lips and forehead. Traces of old fiber can be found as well as old red trade beads. This mask has been custom mounted on a wood block probably in the 1940's or 1950's; the old label on the back of the block is shown above.
